Infinitely Variable: for any input RPM, the device can smoothly transition from forward speeds, to neutral, and to reverse without clutches or reversing gears.
This capability enables a number of novel implementations of power trains, such as a variable speed motor drive that allows a high efficiency electric motor to come to full speed (and full electrical efficiency) prior to engaging its load.
Reduced Material Stresses: because InfiniTran™ drives are designed to spread the traction requirement across a number of traction contact points, the overall requirement for contact force between traction elements is reduced. This reduces the material strength requirements for the traction elements.
The reduced material stress requirements minimizes the need for high cost materials and costly manufacturing processes such as through hardening. The result is a less expensive powertrain that can better meet your application’s price requirements.
Endemic Generation of Traction Forces: the arrangements of rotational moments within InfiniTran™ devices is such that a contact force on the traction elements is generated that increases (decreases) as the torque demand is increased (reduced).
This endemic force reduces the need for supporting equipment to "squeeze" the traction elements together and results in more compact designs that can better adapt to application requirements.
High Torque Capacity: the combination of the endemic contact force and the multiple traction contact points leads to designs that can scale to very high torque and power throughput.
This means that InfiniTran™ products can be adapted to your applications needs at almost any level of required horsepower or output torque.
Simple Shapes and Assembly: InfiniTran™ drives and transmissions do not require the unusual shapes and precise shaping requirements that are essential to other forms of continuously variable drives, such as the toroidal drive.
This reduces the manufacturing costs and makes InfiniTran™ products highly cost competitive compared to other alternatives.
