S-Series Serpentine Drive The InfiniTran™ S-Series product line is directed toward electric motor drive applications.

It too can achieve a neutral point enabling the electric motor to spin up to full speed — with zero RPM on the output shaft — prior to engaging the load.

1. Input Shaft
2. Output Shaft
3. Serpentine Belt
4. Carrier (crank) - Attached to input shaft
5. Carrier (follower) - Floating; Pulled by belt
6. Planetary Gear
7. Sun Gear - Attached to output gear
8. Variator - Hidden from view beneath belt

Key Characteristics:

  • Multi-rib serpentine belt for high torque capacity. Adapts to a range of belt widths to meet application demands.
  • Split carrier for belt enables self-tension of the belt, achieving greater tension (for better traction) as the torque demand increases, but relaxing tension under low demand conditions to improve belt wear.
  • Capable of delivering greater than 10 times input torque at low speed ratios (low output RPM). In some cases can eliminate post drive step-down gearing.
  • Enables high efficiency electric motors to have speed control with no impact on motor efficiency and no thermal limits to extended low RPM operations.
  • Can be implemented as a variable speed drive (computer control) or an adjustable speed drive (manual control).

  • The InfiniTran™ S-Series products normally come in models tailored for 1 to 10hp electric motors. However, we have found that the S-design can efficiently scale to smaller and larger hp/torque applications. Please contact us to discuss how we can adapt this very flexible technology to your applications.
